ABOUT THE PROJECT

MoneyTrees exposes the absurd destruction of rainforests and other natural habitats driven by billions in investment from unregulated banks and corporations.

Together with the multi-year, international campaign 'Defund Nature Destruction Now', the film aims to pressure governments to regulate the finance industry.

Get Involved

As long as money keeps flowing towards nature destruction, we can’t solve the climate crisis and reverse biodiversity collapse. We need urgent government action to protect and restore nature and defund its destruction.

Act to end Nature Destruction

Follow The Money

Each year, we witness the loss of more of our last remaining nature. Who’s to blame? Giant corporations destroying nature for industrial agriculture, beef, soy, palm oil, feed, timber, paper and mining.. and maximum profit.

Greedy corporations don’t value what we value. They are destroying nature’s treasures making the climate crisis and biodiversity collapse worse. Banks and finance Institutions provide billions so these businesses continue to operate without accountability. We need government action now.

The Campaign

'Defund Nature Destruction Now' is a multi-year, international campaign for which we created many different assets including animated key visuals and a brand identity.

The campaign launched worldwide with the participation of many Greenpeace offices including Brazil, Indonesia, The Netherlands and many others. In tandem with the film and digital assets, real-life demonstrations and actions were organized to gain attention.

Climate March Zuidas

Greenpeace opened Climate March Zuidas, Amsterdam with a demonstration of MoneyTrees. The demonstration featured a large prop tree being attacked by volunteers dressed as bankers as the 'MoneyTrees' song played.

Over 15,000 people joined the climate march that happened a week ahead of the European Elections, demanding that banks such as Rabobank, ING and ABN Amro change their course and stop investing their money in deforestation, mining or pollution.

No Trees Were Harmed

A lot of care was put into making sure this film would not harm the natural environment. The team scouted large areas of forest and found a couple of huge trees fallen over in a storm. This allowed us to put forest destruction on screen without actually damaging the ecosystem.

Stream The Song
"I am thrilled to present 'MoneyTrees,' a song that explores the theme of human greed through the lens of caricatured corporate bankers. The music mirrors the intensity of Greenpeace's message through chaotic beats and primal cries that mirror the sounds of revving chainsaws, accompanied by a bassline that strikes like an axe.”

Campaign Identity

We created a campaign identity to unify all of the assets under the same look. Central to the identity was the logo which had to communicate the feeling of the campaign as well as all of the themes surrounding it.
